Three Seasons at Lang Lang: Cricket, Friendship and Family

By Oshadha Ariyadasa · October 1, 2026

My journey with Lang Lang Cricket Club began in the 2022/23 season. At the time, I was simply joining another cricket club and looking forward to playing the game I love. I didn’t realise then just how special the next three seasons would become.

From the beginning, Lang Lang made me feel welcome. What stood out to me was that the club was about much more than cricket. Of course, we all came together to compete, train and play, but there was a genuine sense of community around the club. The friendships, the families, the conversations, the laughs and the time spent together away from the cricket all became an important part of my experience.

My first season was a great introduction to the club and to the people who make Lang Lang what it is. I had the opportunity to play alongside some very good cricketers, meet plenty of new people and become part of a group that quickly felt familiar.

I returned for the 2023/24 season, and by then Lang Lang had become much more than somewhere I played cricket. It had become a place where I felt I belonged.

One of the things I will always appreciate about my time at Lang Lang is the people I was fortunate enough to share the journey with. I played alongside many great players, each bringing their own personality, experience and character to the team. I also had the opportunity to compete against many excellent cricketers from other clubs, which is one of the great things about local cricket.

But when you look back on a cricket career, it isn’t always the cricket itself that stays with you.

It is the moments around it.

The time spent together at the ground. The conversations before and after games. The celebrations. The tough days. The jokes and laughs in the rooms. The support between teammates. The families who become part of the wider cricket community. Those are the memories that make a club special.

For me, Lang Lang was full of those moments.

The 2024/25 season brought another important chapter when I had the privilege of captaining the Senior District team. Taking on the captaincy was something I was very proud of. It gave me a different perspective on the game and a greater appreciation for the responsibility that comes with leading a group of players.

Being captain wasn’t simply about what happened on the field. It was about bringing people together, supporting teammates, sharing responsibility and trying to create the kind of environment where everyone could enjoy their cricket and contribute to the team.

Looking back across those three seasons, I feel very fortunate to have been part of Lang Lang Cricket Club.

There were plenty of games, plenty of challenges and plenty of competition, but above all there were people. People who made the experience memorable and who made the club feel like more than just a place to play cricket.

I have made friendships at Lang Lang that I will always value. I have shared the field with some great players, played against some great players and, most importantly, shared countless good moments with great people.

I also loved seeing the family side of the club. Cricket has a wonderful way of bringing people together, and Lang Lang demonstrated that beautifully. The club became a place where cricket and family life could exist side by side, and where the people around the players became just as much a part of the experience.

When I think about my time at Lang Lang, I don’t think first about individual games or results. I think about the people, the friendships, the laughter and the feeling of being part of a club.

From my first season in 2022/23, through 2023/24, and then into 2024/25 as captain of the Senior District team, Lang Lang became an important part of my cricket journey.

I am grateful to everyone who welcomed me, played alongside me, challenged me, supported me and shared those moments with me.

Most of all, I am grateful for the memories.

Three seasons may only be a small part of the long history of Lang Lang Cricket Club, but they will always be a very meaningful part of my own cricket story.

I will always look back on my time at Lang Lang with a great deal of pride, gratitude and, most importantly, fond memories.

Thank you, Lang Lang Cricket Club, for making me feel like part of the family.
